Welfare of Corps member is paramount; NYSC tells employers in Kwara

NYSC State Coordinator in Kwara, Mrs Tosin Ikupolati has declared that welfare of Corps members serving in the state remain paramount to the Scheme.

Ikupolati made this known on Tuesday at the close of the 2019 Batch ‘A’ Orientation Course for 2019 Batch in Yikpata, Edu Local Government of the State.

She added that the set of Corps members have been posted according to their areas of disciplines and specializations across the 16 Local Government areas of the state.

2, 083 Corps members participated in the three weeks orientation course that commenced on March 29, 2019.

The State Coordinator therefore appealed to all Corps members in the state to make the welfare of Corps members posted to their offices a priority.

“Let me inform all our corps Employers that the welfare of our Corps Members remain paramount to us and we will not compromise it.

“We shall not hesitate to repost any of our Corps Members if we discover they are not well taken care of or under-utilized,” Ikupolati added.

She also appealed to employers of corps members not to reject those posted to their offices.

“I advise the employers to help the Federal Government and help the scheme by accepting corps members posted to their offices for the primary assignments.

“If the intervention call by NYSC is not there, what do you think would have happened?

“These graduates in their thousands would be released from their universities and polytechnics to the labour market that is not there.

“NYSC is a special intervention that takes these students, mould them and prepare them for the life ahead of them.

“So for those that are rejecting corps members, they are not helping the Federal Government and they are not helping themselves, ‘’ Ikupolati said.

In his address, Gov Abdulfatah Ahmed commended the Corps members for their roles in the 2019 general elections in the Country and in Kwara in particular.

“Anytime we are reflecting over the successes recorded in these elections in terms of credibility, fairness and acceptance, the involvement of patriotic Corps members will quickly come to mind. The country is proud of you,” Ahmed said.

Ahmed, who was represented by the commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Alhaji Tajudeen Alalade, appealed to the Corps members to accept their postings in good faith.

“I charge you to put into use all tenets of hard work, discipline, commitment and loyalty imbibed during the orientation.
