Fresh facts have emerged that President Muhammadu Buhari will not assent the Electoral Act amendment draft bill willingly as anticipation by most Nigerians.

Our Kaduna correspondent scooped from Aso Rock sources, that Buhari, had wanted to assent the first Electoral Act amendment, but was later prevailed upon to wait until the coast is clear about the lingering intra-party squabbles in the ruling All progressive Congress (APC).

The sources, it was further learnt, Buhari’s handlers insisted that until the ruling party’s victory in 2023, is also ultimately assured and all the necessary problems are addressed and put in place before consideration may be given to the Act amendment where possible.

Based on the above, the president was enjoined to withhold his assent until the APC national convention crises adequately addressed following inability of the party to come together to hold its national convention.

The situation compounded when the president was informed that his party may not win 2023 general election under free, fair and credible elections, in which the Electoral Act amendment would surely usher in when assented, inview of the introduction of electronics transmission of votes involved.

Hope dashed when the president was also informed of the implication on his personal life and comfort, should his APC lost the 2023 Governorship elections to opposition party in kaduna State where he intended to spend the rest of his life after office in 2023.

The last but not the least that broke the Carmels back, and most cogent ills against assenting the Act is the recent outburst by president Buhari while in kaduna for the Commissioming of El-Rufai urban renewal road infrastructural development projects in January 2022.

In the rigorous final campaign against assenting to the Electoral Act amendment in kaduna, was when president Buhari publicly declared his intentions to returned back to kaduna resident after office in 2023, instead Katsina state of his origin.

It was gathered that Governor El-Rufai and other APC bigwigs present at the commissioming of overhead bridge in kawo kaduna where the president made the revaluation, personally breath life into him more on the need to withhold the assent on Electoral Act amendment completely to enable them deliver Kaduna State for APC.

Accordingly, the high aparthy against the presidential visit in Zaria in kaduna where Buhari, El-Rufai posters and billboards were overtly attacked, stoned and brought down and burnt by some aggressive youths, seriously contributed to the ill-advised against the Electoral Act amendment, among other things.

Buhari, it was also reliably gathered, was reminded at the spot, of the dare consequences, should he refused to heed to their advise to withhold the assent, so that APC wins in the kaduna Governorship by all means, also insinuating that the only thing that’ll guarantee his comfort in kaduna after office is when APC emerged victorious as president and as Governor in kaduna state in 2023.
