Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared a political split with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara ahead of the 2027 elections, saying he will support a candidate he trusts to succeed Fubara. Speaking over the weekend in Ahoada Local Government Area, Wike stressed that he would not repeat what he described as the mistakes of the 2023 election.

According to Wike, previous agreements with the governor were violated, making further cooperation impossible. “We will not make the mistake we made in 2023. No individual will dictate political decisions to me in Rivers State,” he said. Wike also dismissed the notion that slogans, rallies, or public displays of support automatically guarantee an electoral ticket.

While reaffirming his backing of President Bola Tinubu for a second term, Wike clarified that his support for the president does not translate into automatic support for Fubara’s re-election. “Politics is about interest,” he said. “I will support a candidate I can rely on and sleep with his eyes closed.”

Wike’s statement underscores a growing realignment in Rivers State politics as the 2027 elections approach, signaling that trust and strategic interest will be central to his political endorsements.
