World Press Freedom Day: Gov Ahmed seeks improved welfare for journalists

Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed, has commended Nigerian Journalists for their resilience, perseverance and patriotism even in the face of intimidation and poor remuneration.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdulwahab Oba, Gov Ahmed urged journalists to remain committed to the professional code of conduct and ethics.

“Though current situation in the country has constrained journalists, like other Nigerians, a free and conscientious press remains the bastion of the nation’s growing democracy”, Dr Ahmed said.

Gov Ahmed who identified with the Nigerian Journalists on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day praised Journalists for being in the vanguard of good governance, accountability and equity and fairness in the society.

The governor who admitted that no nation can grow without free press called for improved welfare of Journalists at all levels and protection while performing their duties.

Governor Ahmed promised that the state government will continue to ensure that journalists working in the state enjoy its support just as the government is committed to upgrading its media houses to meet international standards.
