Zamfara APC Denies Internal Crisis, Blames Shinkafi, Marafa for Disunity Claims

Date:

The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied reports of internal conflict within the party, describing the claims as an attempt by certain individuals to sow division.

In a statement on Saturday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris Gusau, said the APC in Zamfara remains united under the leadership of prominent figures, including the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.

Gusau accused former gubernatorial candidate, Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, and ex-senator, Kabiru Marafa, of seeking attention and trying to destabilise the party for personal gain.

He said, “The APC in Zamfara is strong, united, and focused. Those spreading rumours of division are disgruntled elements who once benefited from the party and its leaders but have now turned against them.”

Shinkafi had earlier appealed to President Bola Tinubu and APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, to intervene in what he called growing divisions within the Zamfara chapter, warning that the situation could harm the party’s prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Responding, Gusau alleged that Shinkafi’s recent criticism was rooted in personal grievances despite the political support he had received from Matawalle in the past. He also claimed that Marafa abandoned the APC after failing to secure federal appointments.

The party spokesperson pointed to the APC’s recent victory in the Kaura-Namoda South State Assembly by-election as evidence of its continued strength and cohesion.

He credited the party’s stability to the collective efforts of Matawalle, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, Senator Ahmad Sani Yarima, and former governor Mamuda Shinkafi.

Gusau added that the APC would continue to consolidate its internal unity and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 polls.
