Veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant Dele Momodu has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the takeover of the party by what he described as “antidemocratic forces.”
In a resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu announced his immediate departure from the party. “My reason is simple and straightforward,” he wrote. “Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight. It is therefore honorable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”
Momodu expressed appreciation to the PDP leadership at the ward level for their support over the years, describing his time in the party as impactful but ultimately unsustainable under current conditions.
His move to the ADC signals a significant political realignment in Edo State and aligns with broader shifts ahead of the 2027 general elections, as dissatisfaction with party leadership continues to trigger high-profile defections.
Since joining the PDP in 2021, Momodu has remained an active voice in internal party debates and national discourse. His exit follows a series of resignations from key members critical of the party’s internal dynamics and direction.
