Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Chief Shonibare and Dr. Abdul Isiaq groups in the Social Democratic Party, SDP, have agreed to join hands together with a view to repositioning and strengthening the party for electoral victory at all levels.
Specifically, the two groups have resolved the lingering leadership tussle in SDP at a meeting held over the weekend in Abuja where they agreed to set up a caretaker committee that would organised acceptable national convention within the time limit set by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The meeting, according to a statement signed and released by Chief Simon Adeshina, specifically resolved that “both sides recognise the need to harmonise the progress of SDP particularly considering the forth coming 2023 general elections.”
“The two groups shall set up a caretaker committee soon to pave way for a true National convention within  the time limit set by INEC.
“The two groups are desirous of bringing confidence back to d members of the party and the general public interested in SDP to take over power at all levels in Nigeria.
“Both groups shall ensure that no group is marginalised or disadvantage in the proposed arrangements.
“The two groups will be willing to admit more groups into SDP who believe in the manifesto and programmes of the party.
“The two groups enjoin INEC not give recognition to the present faction occupying the secretariat henceforth as there is no basis for it,” the statement informed.
