The year 2025 proved turbulent for several of Nigeria’s high-profile celebrity couples, with a number of once-admired marriages collapsing under public scrutiny and controversy.
One of the most shocking splits involved music icon Innocent “2Face” Idibia and actress Annie Macaulay Idibia. The couple, married in 2012, officially separated on January 26, 2025, after years of widely reported marital challenges and infidelity allegations. 2Face announced the divorce via Instagram and shortly afterwards introduced a new partner, Natasha Osawaru, to the public.
Another widely followed crisis was between Nollywood actress Regina Daniels and Senator Ned Nwoko. Married traditionally in 2019, their union came under intense scrutiny in 2025 following rumours of infidelity, which both parties initially denied. Matters escalated in October when Regina publicly accused the senator of domestic violence, triggering a series of allegations and counterclaims from both sides. While Nwoko dismissed her claims, Regina insisted the marriage was never legally formalised. The status of their relationship remains unresolved.
Popular comedian Sabinus, real name Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, also confirmed the end of his marriage to Ciana Chapman in December 2025. Married in 2023, the couple reportedly split over unresolved personal issues. Sabinus, however, said both parties remain cordial and are focused on co-parenting their daughter.
Similarly, actress Anita Joseph announced the end of her marriage to hypeman MC Fish (Fisayo Olagunju) on December 22, 2025. Married since 2020, their separation was followed by public exchanges over financial and professional disagreements, claims both parties have addressed separately.
While some celebrity couples officially ended their marriages, others were dogged by persistent rumours. Nollywood actors Frederick Leonard and Peggy Ovire were among those whose marriage came under speculation throughout 2025. Signs of strain included Ovire removing Leonard’s name from her social media bio and the couple’s absence from public events together.
Although neither Leonard nor Ovire has confirmed a separation, their silence and prolonged absence as a couple have fueled speculation that their marriage, contracted in 2022, may have broken down.
As the year closed, 2025 stood out as one of the most dramatic periods for celebrity relationships in Nigeria, highlighting the pressures fame, public scrutiny, and personal challenges place on high-profile marriages.
