2027: I’ll Back Any ADC Presidential Candidate — Dele Momodu

Date:

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has pledged to support whoever emerges as the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.

Momodu said he would fully back any of the leading political figures likely to contest on the ADC platform, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal.

The veteran journalist made the declaration during an interview on Politics HQ, a programme aired on News Central on Tuesday night.

According to him, his loyalty lies with the ADC rather than any individual aspirant, stressing that party unity must come before personal preferences.

“I’m very close to every one of them,” Momodu said. “Peter Obi has been to my house in Lagos, London and Accra, and I have also been to his house in Lagos. We have mutual respect for each other.”

He added that he would give total support to whoever the party chooses. “If today ADC decides to pick Peter Obi, I will support him with everything I have. If it’s Tambuwal or Amaechi, I will support them. And if it’s Atiku, it’s even sweeter because I’ve already worked closely with him,” he said.

Momodu also defended Atiku Abubakar, saying the former vice president is often unfairly criticised. He recalled that Atiku gave Obi a national platform in 2019 by selecting him as his running mate.

“People forget that Atiku and Obi worked together in 2019 and performed well, even though they didn’t win. They are not enemies,” he said.

Describing Atiku as “a perfect gentleman and a consummate democrat,” Momodu said the former vice president does not hold grudges and maintains cordial relationships across the political spectrum.
