Veteran Nigerian musician 2Baba (Innocent Idibia) has issued a public apology following widespread backlash over his recent remarks suggesting that men are not wired to remain sexually committed to one woman.

The 49-year-old singer made the controversial statement during an interview with media personality Nedu Wazobia, a clip of which went viral and drew sharp criticism from social media users and fans.

In a video posted on his Instagram page on Wednesday, 2Baba acknowledged his poor choice of words and apologized, particularly to his wife, Annie Idibia, for any embarrassment the statement may have caused.

“I know I messed up with what I said. I really, really messed up the way I said it. I said it because I wanted people to understand me, but maybe I didn’t express myself appropriately. I own up to my mistake,” he said.

Referring to the backlash, 2Baba admitted that the responses made him reflect on how much people value his influence. “Calling me a legend is an honour, but this my talk was quite unlegendly. I’m sorry,” he added.

He concluded by reaffirming that his statement was not a reflection of his character, promising to face the consequences of his words and learn from the experience.
