It was another celebration galore at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Jos as 3 Division Polo team emerged winner of the Annual Bauchi Selected Polo Tournament on Saturday, 27 July 2024 at the Abubakar D Umar Polo Ground in the ancient city of Bauchi.
The 3 Division Jos Polo team led by the Acting Assistant Director 3 Division Legal Service Major Aminu Mairuwa, defeated the Kuyambana Polo Team 4- 0 in a fierce encounter where the team emerged winner of the exalted cup.
Interestingly, the deserved victory came the same day the Division was declared winner of the just concluded Nigerian Army Inter- Division Combat Platoon Obstacle Competition 2024 held in Jos.
The Polo tournament which saw teams from across the country compete in various cups which the Kuyambanan Wase Cup was one of them.
Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the event, the Executive Governor of Bauchi state, Senator Bala Mohammed, congratulated the winners of various trophies and all the participants during the tournament. He reiterated the state government’s commitment towards developing sports in the state.
Represented by the Commissioner for Sport and Youth Development, Mr Salisu Gamawa, he further added that the sport of Polo is being given all the necessary boost in the state, as virtually all the Club’s requests were approved by the Governor. He further called on the people to continue to be dedicated and committed to nation building and peaceful coexistence through sports.
In his response, the President, Bauchi Polo Club, Brigadier General II Adamu (Rtd) thanked the State Government and other sponsors for an impressive turnout of this year’s Tournament. He gave the assurances that the Club will continue to promote the game of Polo for attainment of excellence.
The event which was graced by the Commissioner of Sport and Youth Development Mr Salisu Gamawa, also had in attendance the Commandant, Nigerian Army Armour School, Major General AA Adekeye, Barden Bauchi Alhaji Umar Dahiru, Senator Shehu Buba as well as other traditional rulers.
Highlight of the event include the game of finals played for the various cups and presentation of Trophies to deserving Teams and players.
