36th UNILORIN SUG President emerged, Ologundudu Joseph
Ologundudu Joseph Adesunkanmi
A 400-level student of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ilorin, Ologundudu Joseph Adesunkanmi, has been elected the 36th President of the University ‘s Students’ Union.
He defeated three other candidates in a keenly contested election last Friday (August 18, 2023).
Declaring the results in the early hours of Saturday (August 19, 2023), the Chairmam, UNILORIN Electoral Commission, Comrade Ajayi Ademola, said that Ologundudu won with 3,013 votes to defeat his closest rival, Usman Hawau Tanimola of the Faculty of Law, who scored 2,527 votes.
Other presidential candidates, Owoyemi Qudus Adebayo of the Faculty of Physical Sciences, and Ibuoye Precious Samuel of the Faculty of Social Sciences polled 752 votes and 631 votes, respectively.
The president-elect served as the General Secretary of the outgoing 35th Executive Council of the Union.
Also elected were Comrade Adegoke Rodiyah Oyeronke, Vice President, Permanent Site; Comrade Zuluqarnaini Shukurat Oluwadamilola, General Secretary; Comrade Afolayan Stephanie Oluwatomisin, Assistant General Secretary; Comrade Atolagbe Oluwatobi Joseph, Public Relations Officer (PRO); Comrade Agezeh Victor Oghenetega, Financial Secretary; Comrade Balogun Abdullahi Oladipupo, Social Secretary; Comrade Salaudeen Habeebulah Damilare, Sports Secretary; and Comrade Afolabi Emmanuel Mayowa, Welfare Secretary.
The election, which was conducted both online and by direct ballot at the permanent site and the College of Health Sciences, as well as the Veterinary Medicine Hostel of the University, also witnessed over 51 newly elected members of the Senate (SRC) representing various Faculties and hostel representatives representing both male and female hostels of the University.
It was supervised by the Student Affairs Unit and was adjudged as free and fair.
