Former Delta State Governor and 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Vice Presidential candidate, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria.
Similarly, the serving Governor of Delta State,
Sheriff Oborevwori, has also moved the entire Peoples Democratic Party structures of governance in the state to the All Progressives Congress ( APC)
The mass defection was announced on Wednesday following an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Asaba, Delta State.
Okowa, in a video address to supporters before the formal announcement, assured them that he would choose the best path forward for the people.
“Be assured that we will not go in the wrong direction. We will take the best direction, the best path for our people,” he said.
This significant political shift is expected to have far-reaching implications ahead of the 2027 general elections. Okowa’s defection is particularly notable given his role as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election.
The development marks a major boost for the APC in Delta State and potentially strengthens the party’s position in the region.
