KWEPA, Kwara Environment Ministry Boost Ties on Waste, Climate Goals

Date:

The General Manager of the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA), Hon. Jide Aina, on Friday visited the State Ministry of Environment to strengthen inter-agency collaboration on environmental protection and waste management.

The meeting, held at the Ministry’s conference hall in Ilorin, aimed to reinforce cooperation between both institutions in key areas such as climate resilience, sanitation, and waste disposal.

During the visit, Hon. Aina stressed the importance of joint efforts in enforcing environmental regulations and raising public awareness. “This visit is not just symbolic but a concrete step toward renewed collaboration,” he said. “The Ministry and KWEPA must work together to achieve a cleaner and healthier Kwara.”

He outlined KWEPA’s strategic priorities, including waste management, environmental sanitation, and public education campaigns, while requesting the Ministry’s ongoing support in executing the agency’s mandate.

Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Buge, welcomed the initiative and emphasized the value of consistent inter-agency engagement. “We are committed to working closely with KWEPA on projects that will improve our environment and enhance public well-being,” she said.

She pledged the Ministry’s full backing for KWEPA’s programmes and reaffirmed the importance of coordinated action in achieving the state’s environmental objectives.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Abubakar Ayinla, congratulated Hon. Aina on his appointment and encouraged KWEPA staff to offer him full support in the interest of sustainable development in the state.

The visit marked a renewed effort to align the strategies of both agencies toward more effective environmental governance in Kwara State.
