The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man, Amos Daniel, in connection with the murder of a woman believed to be his girlfriend at a hotel in the Ayobo area of Lagos.
The incident occurred on the evening of Thursday, July 18, 2025, sparking panic among hotel staff and guests after disturbing noises were heard from one of the rooms.
According to eyewitnesses, Daniel checked into the hotel around 5 p.m. with two male companions. The victim, later identified as Endurance, a native of Akwa Ibom State, joined them shortly afterward. Around 10 p.m., guests heard loud noises, prompting staff to investigate.
A lodger, identified only as Adio, said a spare key was used to open the room when no one responded. Inside, the body of a woman was found lying in a pool of blood with multiple injuries.
While two suspects escaped the scene, Daniel was caught attempting to flee the premises. He was subdued by staff and guests and later handed over to the police.
A hotel employee told reporters that Daniel was caught trying to escape through the gate and was briefly assaulted by angry guests before the police arrived.
During the struggle, Daniel allegedly confessed that he and his accomplices lured the victim to the hotel for ritual purposes.
Lagos police spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that the hotel manager filed a report at the Ayobo Police Station. He said the woman鈥檚 body bore stab wounds to the abdomen, head, and ribs, likely inflicted with a sharp object.
A dagger believed to have been used in the attack was recovered, along with several other weapons from Daniel鈥檚 belongings, including a UTC axe, machete, jack knives, scissors, and military-style boots.
The victim鈥檚 remains have been deposited at the Yaba General Hospital mortuary for autopsy, while investigations continue.
