The Kwara State Government has distributed nutritional and educational support to orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in Oro-Ago, Ifelodun Local Government Area, as part of ongoing efforts to improve child welfare and access to quality education across the state.

According to statement by Iyanu Lawal, the Press Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs (MOWA), the intervention, which took place on Saturday at the palace of the Oloro of Oro-Ago, His Royal Majesty Oba Johnson Olanrewaju Dada, was witnessed by traditional leaders, parents, teachers, and beneficiaries from the community.

The Commissioner, Chief (Mrs.) Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade, who led the distribution exercise, said the support reflects the state government’s commitment to protecting the rights and futures of OVC.

She listed the items distributed to include rice, beans, garri, sugar, palm oil, vegetable oil, school uniforms, exercise books, sandals, socks, school bags, writing materials, and payment of Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) levies. According to her, these provisions are not only palliatives but also an investment in the future of vulnerable children.

“This initiative is a form of empowerment that can transform the story of a child at risk of being left behind. We hope these children will grow up to give back to their communities,” the Commissioner said.

Chief Afolashade commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his administration’s commitment to inclusivity and child welfare, stressing that the state would continue to oppose all forms of abuse, including rape, child labour, sexual violence, and female genital mutilation.

The Oloro of Oro-Ago, Oba Johnson Olanrewaju Dada, expressed appreciation to the Governor for extending support to vulnerable children in the community and praised the Ministry for its dedication to inclusive service delivery.

Also speaking, the Principal of ECWA Christian Commercial School, Mrs. Roseline Olawuyi, lauded the state’s education and welfare policies, describing them as impactful and far-reaching. She offered prayers for continued wisdom and success for the present administration.
