Nigerian forward Umar Sadiq is in advanced discussions with Deportivo Alavés over a potential summer transfer, as former club Almería renew efforts to re-sign the striker ahead of the new La Liga season.
According to Spanish radio station Onda Vasca, Sadiq is a top target for Alavés, who are actively seeking to reinforce their forward line following the €16.5 million departure of Joaquín Panichelli to Strasbourg. The club currently has only two recognised strikers—Asier Villalibre and Toni Martínez—leaving head coach Eduardo Coudet short of options.
“Sadiq is in conversations with the Vitoria-Gasteiz side,” journalist Samu Valcárcel said on La Movida Deportiva Gipuzkoa, confirming Alavés’ pursuit of the Nigerian attacker. However, Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay has suggested the 27-year-old could yet remain with the San Sebastián club.
Sadiq joined Sociedad from Almería in 2022 for €20 million but has struggled for consistency due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered shortly after his arrival. A loan spell at Valencia in early 2025 helped him regain form, scoring six goals and playing a crucial role in keeping the club in the top flight.
Meanwhile, Almería are looking to bring back their former talisman as they target immediate promotion back to La Liga. The club, which recently sold Luis Suárez to Sporting CP for €22 million, sees Sadiq as the ideal striker to lead their attack in the Segunda División. According to Super Deporte, “Almería longs for one of the main architects of their promotion in 2022.”
While Alavés remain in the lead for his signature, they are also exploring alternative options, including Elche’s Lucas Boyé. Mariano Díaz, currently with the team in pre-season, is not considered a firm candidate.
With interest growing from multiple clubs, including a watchful Valencia, Sadiq’s future remains a key talking point in the Spanish transfer window.
