Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, will learn their quarter-final opponents today (Wednesday) as Angola face Cameroon in a qualification match at the ongoing 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
The reigning champions cruised through Group D with back-to-back wins, opening their campaign with a dominant 92–45 victory over Rwanda before edging Mozambique 60–55 in a tightly contested encounter. The results saw Nigeria advance to the last eight, continuing their formidable unbeaten run at the tournament.
With the narrow win against Mozambique, D’Tigress extended their AfroBasket winning streak to 26 games — a record that stretches back to their semi-final loss to hosts Cameroon in 2015. They have since won every game, collecting three straight titles in the process.
Cameroon, who finished second in Group B, began their campaign with a 70–63 win over debutants South Sudan but fell heavily to Mali 75–49 in their final group match. The team scored 119 points and conceded 138, finishing with a -19 point differential.
Angola, on the other hand, endured a disappointing run in the group stage. The two-time champions lost both games, first to Egypt (70–54) and then to hosts Ivory Coast (82–74). Their campaign yielded 128 points scored and 152 conceded, leaving them with a -24 point differential.
The winner between Angola and Cameroon will face Nigeria in the quarter-finals on Thursday, July 31. A win for D’Tigress would secure them a place in the semi-finals and guarantee qualification for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament.
