Super Falcons star Jennifer Echegini was recently cautioned by a teammate not to open the window of their team bus while in Lagos, due to fears her phone could be stolen by onlookers.
In a viral video shared on X, Echegini, who scored Nigeria’s third goal in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final against Morocco, expressed her desire to open the bus window to connect with cheering fans.
Speaking in Pidgin English, the 24-year-old told fellow teammate Asisat Oshoala, “Me I wan open window.” But another player quickly warned her, saying, “No open nah, na Lagos you dey, them fit thief your phone sit down.”
The moment occurred shortly after the Super Falcons were celebrated in Abuja, where President Bola Tinubu awarded them national honours and cash rewards for their WAFCON victory.
Nigeria defeated host nation Morocco 3–2 in the final to clinch their 12th WAFCON title.
