A 47-year-old Chinese national, Luo Mao, has died after collapsing while on duty at a ceramics company in Ajaokuta, Kogi State.

Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, confirmed the incident on Thursday, stating that it occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on Friday, August 2. According to him, the company’s Human Resource Manager reported that the Chinese supervisor was rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Security analyst Makama Zagazola, who shared details on his X handle, said Mao collapsed at the factory’s Press Department and was first taken to Covenant Hospital, Ajaokuta, before being referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja. However, due to an ongoing strike by medical staff, he was moved to Shifaah Hospital in Lokoja, where he was confirmed dead at 9:30 p.m. on August 5.

His body has been deposited at the Kogi State Specialist Hospital Mortuary for autopsy. Sources said investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of death, but no foul play is currently suspected.

This incident comes months after Chinese expatriates and a police officer were killed in an armed ambush in Abia State in April, while others were rescued by security forces.
