FSB: Woman Detained For Railway Blast In Siberia

Date:

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said Tuesday it had arrested a woman accused of carrying out a railway sabotage attack in eastern Siberia on behalf of Ukrainian intelligence.

The woman, born in 1974, allegedly detonated a homemade explosive device on the Trans-Siberian Railway in the Zabaikalsky region in August, according to an FSB statement.

Investigators said she built the device from ā€œpublicly available components,ā€ planted it on the tracks, and filmed the explosion on her phone before sending the footage to her handler in exchange for a promised reward.

The FSB did not release the suspect’s name but said she is in custody.

The agency also warned that Ukrainian intelligence has been attempting to recruit Russians online, using platforms such as Telegram and WhatsApp, to conduct sabotage operations.

In a separate case, the FSB said a resident of Russia’s Bryansk region had been sentenced to 18 years and six months in prison for transporting explosives for a ā€œpro-Ukrainianā€ group.

According to officials, the man allegedly connected with the group via Telegram, retrieved explosives from a hidden cache, and awaited instructions before being arrested.

He was convicted by a military tribunal, state news agency TASS reported.

The incidents highlight what Russian authorities describe as heightened Ukrainian efforts to disrupt infrastructure and recruit inside Russian territory as the war continues.
