The Nigeria Immigration Service has warned Nigerians against travelling abroad without valid documents, saying such actions violate immigration laws and expose individuals to serious dangers. The agency stressed that international travel must only be done with approved passports, visas, and other required documents.
In a public alert issued on Monday by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI AS Akinlabi, the NIS cautioned against bypassing official immigration procedures or using illegal border routes, describing such acts as unlawful.
The service also raised concerns over the increasing activities of fraudulent migration syndicates that deceive Nigerians with fake promises of jobs, education, and better opportunities abroad. According to the NIS, many victims end up in forced labour, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation.
The agency warned that no legitimate travel or recruitment process operates outside recognised immigration procedures and official border posts. Nigerians were urged to verify all travel and employment offers through authorised channels.
The NIS further advised members of the public to report suspicious migration activities to the nearest immigration office or relevant security agencies, reaffirming its commitment to protecting citizens and securing the country’s borders.
