Troops Seize Fertilizer, Drugs in Yobe Counter-Terror Operation

Date:

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have intercepted a major consignment of suspected terrorist supplies during security checks in Yobe State, the Nigerian Army said.

Acting on intelligence, soldiers under Operation DESERT SANITY IV stopped a 14-tyre trailer along the Nguru–Gashua road on September 16 at about 7:40 a.m. The vehicle, later moved to a secure location, was found to contain 700 bags of NPK 20:10:10 fertilizer—used in making improvised explosive devices (IEDs)—along with 27 cartons of assorted drugs and nine cartons of saline solution, hidden beneath fabric bundles.

Military authorities said the consignment was headed toward Niger Republic, pointing to possible cross-border supply networks for terrorist groups.

Earlier that same day, at about 10:30 a.m., troops along the same axis intercepted two Sharon buses and another trailer carrying fabrics and solar panels. Intelligence reports suggested the materials were intended for making uniforms for insurgent fighters.

All drivers, assistants, and seized items are currently in custody, pending further investigations to trace both the suppliers and intended recipients.

The Theatre Command assured the public that troops remain alert to disrupt terrorist logistics in the northeast. It also urged citizens to continue sharing timely intelligence with security agencies.

The Military High Command commended the troops for their efforts, describing the interceptions as a significant step in weakening insurgent supply chains.
