The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has said that military support from China is already yielding positive results in Nigeria.
Obasa made the remarks during the 76th anniversary celebration of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, highlighting the benefits Nigeria has gained from its bilateral relationship with China.
According to Obasa, China’s assistance—including military training and support for local arms production—has strengthened Nigeria’s capacity to tackle insecurity. He noted that the upgraded military partnership has not only improved security in Nigeria but also contributed to stability in other African nations.
“The upgraded military partnership between the two countries, with China focusing on local arms production and military training, is already bearing fruit,” Obasa said.
He further highlighted China’s role in Lagos State’s infrastructure development, citing significant investments in roads, bridges, and rail systems that have boosted the state’s economy and enhanced social development.
Obasa also referenced discussions between President Bola Tinubu and Chinese President Xi Jinping, describing their meeting as cordial and in-depth. He noted that both leaders recognized a new historical starting point for China-Nigeria relations and agreed that strengthened strategic cooperation would further propel China-Africa relations.
The Lagos Speaker stressed that China’s continued engagement has played a critical role in improving the economic landscape and enriching communities in Lagos State.
