The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has said that military support from China is already yielding positive results in Nigeria.
Obasa made the remarks during the 76th anniversary celebration of the Peopleโs Republic of China in Lagos, highlighting the benefits Nigeria has gained from its bilateral relationship with China.
According to Obasa, Chinaโs assistanceโincluding military training and support for local arms productionโhas strengthened Nigeriaโs capacity to tackle insecurity. He noted that the upgraded military partnership has not only improved security in Nigeria but also contributed to stability in other African nations.
โThe upgraded military partnership between the two countries, with China focusing on local arms production and military training, is already bearing fruit,โ Obasa said.
He further highlighted Chinaโs role in Lagos Stateโs infrastructure development, citing significant investments in roads, bridges, and rail systems that have boosted the stateโs economy and enhanced social development.
Obasa also referenced discussions between President Bola Tinubu and Chinese President Xi Jinping, describing their meeting as cordial and in-depth. He noted that both leaders recognized a new historical starting point for China-Nigeria relations and agreed that strengthened strategic cooperation would further propel China-Africa relations.
The Lagos Speaker stressed that Chinaโs continued engagement has played a critical role in improving the economic landscape and enriching communities in Lagos State.
