The Kwara State Government has assured that it would continue to work closely with FIDA and other relevant stakeholders to ensure protection of the right of women, children and other citizens.
The state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon Senior Ibrahim Sulyman Esq, gave the assurance at the Annual General Meeting(AGM), of the Kwara State Chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), held in Ilorin, Kwara State Capital.
The Attorney General who spoke through the Deputy Director, Civil Litigation of the Ministry, Mansurat Bello Alaya Esq, pledged that the government would synergize with stakeholders to ensure that that laws and policies are aligned with international best practices and promote the rights and interests of women and children.
Justice Sulyman further explained that the present administration under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq would continue to provide enabling environment for women, children and other citizens to actualize their full potentials.
While commending FIDA for its commitment to promotion of justice, equality, and human rights, the Commissioner reiterated the Government’s unwavering commitment to ensure free access to justice in the state.
The FIDA Nigeria’s Chairperson, Funke Balogun Esq., had in her remarks, highlighted the organization’s commitment to protecting, promoting, and defending the rights of women and children across Nigeria.
She informed that since her assumption of office, the organization has sustained its struggle for women’s rights, with over 10 Training Workshops held on leadership skills and critical areas of FIDA’s mandate.
Barrister Seye Thompson, of Seye Thompson Attorneys, had in his Keynote address themed: “Reclaiming Digital Spaces: Ending Technology Facilities Gender-Based Violence”, emphasized the need to focus on women facing domestic violence and to consider redress in law.
