Werder Bremen have confirmed that Nigerian international Victor Boniface will undergo knee surgery on Saturday, ruling him out for the remainder of the 2025/26 season. The 25-year-old has been sidelined since December due to the injury.

Boniface is currently on loan at Werder Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen, and the loan arrangement will remain in effect until the end of the season despite his surgery and absence from play.

The Nigerian forward has featured in 11 Bundesliga matches for Bremen this season, contributing two assists before his injury curtailed his campaign.

The club has not provided a specific timeline for his full recovery but confirmed that the surgery is intended to address the lingering knee problem and support long-term fitness.

Boniface, considered one of Nigeria’s emerging talents in European football, will now focus on rehabilitation, with Bremen and Leverkusen monitoring his progress closely ahead of the 2026/27 season.
