Armed Men Attack Benue Community, Kill Residents, Destroy Homes

Date:

At least two people have been killed and several houses destroyed following a violent communal clash between neighbouring communities in Obi Local Government Area.

Security expert Zagazola Makama reported that the incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on April 28, when over 100 armed men allegedly invaded Adiko community from neighbouring Ayinu in Oju Local Government Area over a long-standing land dispute.

According to the report, the attackers opened fire on residents, killing two people on the spot before setting several houses ablaze and destroying farmlands, worsening tensions between the communities.

Security operatives and tactical teams were quickly deployed to the area to restore order. The bodies of the victims were recovered and deposited at the General Hospital in Obi.

Authorities from both local government areas have reportedly begun peace talks with leaders of the affected communities in an effort to de-escalate tensions and prevent further violence.

Security agencies have also launched investigations and intensified efforts to identify and arrest those responsible, while additional personnel have been deployed to maintain peace in the area.
