Rema emerged as the big winner at the 2026 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), held at the Eko Hotels and Suites Convention Centre in Lagos. The 24-year-old singer, best known for his hit song Calm Down, walked away with three major awards.
He was crowned Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, Best Artiste of the Year, and Best African Artiste, Duo or Group in African RnB/Soul for Calm Down. Rema’s wins came amid stiff competition from top Nigerian stars, including Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, and Asake.
Receiving his awards, Rema expressed gratitude to his fans and the organizers, acknowledging that their support has been crucial to his success. Meanwhile, Burna Boy claimed the Album of the Year award, and Yemi Alade’s You Are (“Iyanu”: The Animated Series) won Best Soundtrack in a Movie, Series, or Documentary. Rising star Shallipoppi’s Laho took home Best Song of the Year and Best Collaboration.
Other notable winners included Tanzanian singer Jux, who was named Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa, and DRC’s Cindy Le Coeur. The event also highlighted African musical talent and cultural heritage, with performances from several prominent artistes throughout the night.
Lagos hosted AFRIMA 2026 for the third time, following previous editions in Ghana and Senegal. The awards show continues to be a major platform for celebrating and promoting African music across the continent.
