Former Senator Shehu Sani, who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has observed that Nigeria’s previously hardened position is gradually softening. He made the comment in a statement shared on his verified X handle.

Sani’s remark follows the invitation of Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu, by former U.S. President Donald Trump to the 74th Annual National Prayer Breakfast on Capitol Hill. The event is a significant platform for international diplomacy and recognition.

At the event, Trump described Mrs. Tinubu as “a very respected woman” and highlighted her role as a Christian pastor at one of the largest churches in Nigeria. He praised her publicly, signaling respect for her personal and professional contributions.

Reacting to the recognition, Sani noted that the First Lady has received public acknowledgment and respect from Trump, indicating a softening of the U.S. stance toward Nigeria. He attributed this development to “adept diplomatic engagement.”

The former lawmaker expressed optimism about the growing diplomatic rapport, writing, “We hope for the best,” as Nigeria navigates its international relationships and seeks positive recognition on the global stage.
