The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the list of candidates eligible for the August 8 governorship election in Osun State, notably excluding the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party candidates. Fourteen political parties met INEC’s requirements, submitting the names and details of their candidates and running mates on time.
The parties cleared for the election include Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), All Progressives Congress (APC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Peoples Party (APP), Boot Party (BP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Young Progressive Party (YPP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
INEC emphasized that the submission of candidates’ particulars, including academic credentials and Form EC9, was in accordance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and the official timetable for the Osun governorship election. The commission stressed that only parties complying with the statutory deadline were listed.
Copies of all candidates’ Form EC9 and supporting documents will be displayed at the INEC State Office, the 30 Local Government Area offices, and the Area Office in Osun State on Monday, February 16, 2026. This ensures that voters and stakeholders have access to the official information ahead of the election.
The commission reassured the public of its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and the conduct of credible elections. INEC affirmed that it will uphold democratic principles and best practices in managing the Osun governorship election.
