Former governor Peter Obi has contrasted India’s rapid adoption of artificial intelligence with Nigeria’s persistent challenges of corruption and misgovernance. Speaking on the outcomes of a recent AI Summit, Obi noted that technology is transforming every sector in India, creating opportunities for innovation, progress, and a brighter future for children.
Obi criticized the Nigerian political landscape, saying citizens wake up “thinking about how to rig local government elections, exploit and impoverish the poor, and manipulate children for political gain.” He highlighted that despite Nigeria’s abundant talent and resources, bad governance and greed continue to hinder national development.
He emphasized that Nigeria’s current state falls far short of its potential, describing a country where leadership should enable every child to dream freely, every citizen to thrive, and governance to be measured by service and vision rather than personal gain and manipulation.
The former governor called on Nigerians to demand a new standard of leadership—one rooted in compassion, integrity, and commitment. He urged a shift toward leadership that benefits the entire population and translates promises into tangible progress for society.
