Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has assured party aspirants that those who fail to secure tickets for the 2027 general elections will not have their sacrifices and contributions to the party overlooked.
Obi gave the assurance on Monday night in Abuja during a dinner organised for governorship, National Assembly and other aspirants, where the party also inaugurated its Selection Committee as part of preparations for the 2027 elections. He praised members for their commitment, noting the challenges of political participation in the country’s current economic and security environment.
He acknowledged that not all aspirants would emerge successful in the selection process but insisted that the party remains committed to recognising individuals who have contributed to its growth. Obi urged members not to view non-selection as the end of their political journey, stressing that public service extends beyond electoral victories.
The former Anambra State governor also expressed concern over Nigeria’s worsening socio-economic and security conditions, citing feedback from Nigerians in the diaspora who are reluctant to return home. He said the situation was unacceptable for a country that once contributed significantly to international peacekeeping efforts.
In his remarks, NDC National Leader Seriake Dickson said the party had grown rapidly and was working to ensure internal unity through screening, consensus building and transparent primaries, while also planning digital systems for future elections and compiling a database of loyal members for future roles.
