The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, Olusola Odumosu, has warned officers to maintain professionalism and avoid accidental discharges while providing security for voters during the FCT Area Council elections.
Addressing personnel ahead of the polls across the six Area Councils, Odumosu stressed the importance of responsible conduct and strict adherence to operational guidelines throughout the exercise.
He directed officers to exercise restraint and ensure that their deployment contributes to a peaceful electoral process without incidents arising from negligence or mishandling of weapons.
More than 1.5 million registered voters in the Federal Capital Territory are expected to vote to elect chairmen and councillors for the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Abaji and Kwali.
A total of 68 positions are being contested, comprising six chairmanship seats and 62 councillorship positions.
To secure the process before, during and after the elections, the NSCDC said it has deployed 4,000 personnel across the territory to maintain law and order and safeguard the electoral environment.
