The Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State has confirmed the arrest of 13 suspects linked to a violent attack on the All Progressives Congress ward congress in Idanre that left two people dead.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the incident occurred on February 18 in Idanre Local Government Area.
In a statement issued in Akure on Saturday, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation ordered by the state Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal.
He said the attack resulted in two deaths, injuries to three persons and destruction of property, prompting an immediate manhunt to apprehend those responsible.
Acting on credible intelligence and sustained surveillance, operatives of the Idanre Police Division conducted coordinated operations at strategic locations, leading to the arrest of the 13 suspects.
The suspects — all men — have been taken into custody and have made statements assisting ongoing investigations, according to the police.
Jimoh said the command is working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack, identify any additional collaborators and establish the specific roles played by each suspect.
He noted that the Commissioner of Police reiterated the command’s commitment to bringing all perpetrators to justice and thanked the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for operational support and guidance.
The police warned individuals or groups against acts capable of disrupting public peace and urged residents to remain calm while cooperating with authorities by providing useful information to aid investigations.
