The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, on Wednesday afternoon arrived at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa ahead of his official decoration as the new head of the Nigeria Police Force.
Disu arrived at approximately 2:45 p.m., accompanied by two senior police officers, as preparations were finalised for the formal ceremony marking his assumption of office. His appointment follows the resignation of his predecessor, Kayode Egbetokun.
On Tuesday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had accepted Egbetokun’s resignation, citing “pressing family considerations.”
In a statement, the President praised Egbetokun for his decades of dedicated service, professionalism, and contributions toward strengthening Nigeria’s internal security framework.
According to the presidency, the appointment of Disu was made in line with existing laws and legal guidance, particularly in view of the prevailing security challenges across the country. Disu, who previously served as an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, brings extensive operational and administrative experience to the role.
As he assumes leadership, the new Acting IGP faces the critical task of addressing rising security concerns nationwide while reinforcing reforms within the police force.
