A bloc of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Sunday held a parallel national convention in Abuja despite ongoing legal disputes over the party’s leadership, electing members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and affirming key officers.
Delegates at the convention, held at Moshood Abiola National Stadium, confirmed Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, alongside other national officers who emerged largely through consensus across the geopolitical zones.
The event was attended by several party heavyweights, including former governors Sule Lamido, Bukola Saraki and Ayodele Fayose, as well as Ibrahim Dankwambo and Samuel Ortom. Also present were Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro and House Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda.
Other officials elected include Aaron Chukwuemeka as Deputy National Chairman (South), Umar Mohammed Bature as National Organising Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed as National Publicity Secretary, and Kamaldeen Ajibade as National Legal Adviser, alongside several others filling key party offices.
The convention, organised by the party’s National Caretaker Committee, adds a fresh dimension to the leadership crisis within the PDP, highlighting deepening internal divisions as the opposition party struggles to stabilise its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
