2027 Elections: APC Senator Dumps Party for PRP

Date:

Senator Shehu Buba Umar has resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress and joined the People’s Redemption Party, citing lack of internal democracy and marginalisation within the APC.

The Bauchi South senator announced his defection on Sunday, May 24, 2026, shortly after withdrawing from the APC governorship primary election in protest. His decision was confirmed in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Comrade Sabo Mohammed.

According to the senator, his exit from the APC followed extensive consultations with political associates, women groups, youths, stakeholders, and supporters across Bauchi State. He described the PRP as a platform built on justice, accountability, transparency, inclusiveness, and democratic values.

Umar said his move was aimed at promoting effective representation, protecting the interests of ordinary citizens, and strengthening democratic governance. He argued that democracy can only thrive where political parties uphold fairness, equal opportunity, and active participation of members in decision-making.

The senator also reaffirmed his commitment to youth empowerment, job creation, education, healthcare, agriculture, poverty reduction, infrastructure, women empowerment, and security. He urged his supporters and political allies to join him in the PRP in pursuit of good governance and sustainable development.
