Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has said he did not purchase the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential form with any intention of becoming a vice president, amid ongoing discussions around the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.
Amaechi made the clarification on Monday during an interview on Trust TV, where he addressed speculation surrounding internal negotiations and power-sharing arrangements within the ADC.
The former Rivers State governor said that if the party intends to adopt a consensus arrangement, it should be properly discussed among all aspirants. He added that in the absence of agreement, candidates should be allowed to test their popularity at the primaries.
“Please stop that. I didn’t buy the ADC presidential ticket to become Vice President,” Amaechi stated during the interview.
His comments come amid reported tensions within the opposition space, where he had previously urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to allow a primary election process, following debates over zoning and candidate selection.
