Dr Anton Sebastianpillai, a consultant geriatrician, died on Saturday at Kingston Hospital having been cared for in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
It’s understood Dr Sebastianpillai came out retirement to help fight the coronavirus outbreak.
He is the 13th frontline medic to die from the killer bug in the UK.
A spokesman for the hospital said: “It is with great sadness that I confirm the death of a consultant geriatrician who was part of the team…Dr Anton Sebastianpillai died on Saturday 4 April 2020 having been cared for in the hospital’s intensive care unit.”
