Ugwuanyi condoles with old Enugu-Okigwe road accident victims’ families

Date:

Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, on Friday, condoled with the families of the school children from Awgu Local Government area of the state, who died in the old Enugu-Okigwe road accident.

ROYAL NEWS reports that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had, on Oct. 29, confirmed that 21 persons lost their lives, while many others were injured in the accident, which occurred at 4.30 pm. on Wednesday.
NAN also reports that the condolence message was contained in a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information, Mr Chidi Aroh, on behalf of the governor and the state government.

The statement noted that the governor received with sadness, the news of the unfortunate incident.

It also stated that the governor commiserated with the Catholic Bishop of Awgu Diocese, Most Rev. John Okoye, the chairman and the people of Awgu council area over the tragic incident.
Ugwuanyi assured the people of the area of the solidarity and support of the state government.

ROYAL NEWS reports that the governor had directed the Commissioner for Health, Dr Ikechukwu Obi, and the council Chairman, Chief Pedro Nwankwo, to take all appropriate and necessary actions regarding the incident.

Ugwuanyi also directed the immediate deployment of the officials of the Enugu State Traffic Management Authority (ESTMA) to manage the worsening traffic situation within the Enugu metropolis.
He attributed the traffic gridlock in the metropolis to the recent actions of hoodlums, who hijacked the #EndSARS protests, to cause mayhem and destroy both public and private property, including traffic lights.

“His Excellency has directed the Commissioner, Enugu State Ministry of Transport, to forthwith deploy the officials of ESTMA to all the major roads within the Enugu capital to ensure free and orderly flow of traffic.
“The directive is to ensure immediate restoration of normalcy in the traffic situation in the metropolis, which has become chaotic since the unfortunate disruption of activities by hoodlums, who hijacked the otherwise peaceful #EndSARS protests.

“The people of Enugu State and indeed, all road users are, therefore, urged to cooperate with the ESTMA officials,’’ the governor said.
