The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kwara State Command, has arrested a 21-year-old man for the alleged kidnapping and murder of a 60-year-old electrical technician who went missing while on a routine job in Ilorin.
The suspect, Soliu Olarewaju Mujeeb, was apprehended following what the Corps described as an “intensive investigation” into the disappearance of Mr. Olarewaju Olusegun Afolabi.
Kwara State Commandant, Abbas Nda Mohammed, disclosed the arrest on Sunday, June 14, 2026, while briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Ilorin.
According to the NSCDC, Mr. Afolabi left his residence on June 7, 2026, to inspect an electrical installation project within the Ilorin metropolis but never returned home.
His prolonged absence triggered alarm among family members, who waited four days before escalating the matter.
“The matter was subsequently reported to the NSCDC Tracking Unit on the 11th” of June, Commandant Mohammed said, after initial search efforts by the family failed to locate the 60-year-old.
The Command immediately activated its Tracking Unit, leading to the arrest of 21-year-old Soliu Olarewaju Mujeeb in connection with both the kidnapping and murder of the technician.
While the NSCDC did not disclose the exact location where Mr. Afolabi’s body was found, the Commandant confirmed the victim is dead and that the suspect is in custody. Investigations are ongoing to establish motive, possible accomplices, and the sequence of events between June 7 and June 11.
The killing of a 60-year-old tradesman on active duty has heightened anxiety among artisans and service providers in Kwara State, where kidnapping for ransom and ritual killings have targeted vulnerable professionals in recent years.
Security experts say the case underscores the growing risks faced by technicians who work alone on field calls, often in isolated or unsecured sites. It also tests the capacity of non-police agencies like the NSCDC to respond to violent crimes in urban centers.
Commandant Mohammed assured the public that the Corps would ensure “diligent prosecution” and urged residents to report suspicious movements promptly. He praised the Tracking Unit for its swift action once the case was reported.
The suspect, Soliu Olarewaju Mujeeb, remains in NSCDC custody as operatives compile evidence for transfer to the appropriate prosecuting authority.
The Command appealed to members of the public with additional information on the case to come forward.
