Adamawa Governor Pardons Six Inmates for Independence Day

Date:

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has granted pardon to six prison inmates in celebration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary. The pardon targets inmates serving various sentences in correctional facilities across the state.

In a statement on Wednesday, Fintiri said the beneficiaries demonstrated significant improvement in behavior and conduct. “In the exercise of my prerogative of mercy, as enshrined in the constitution and based on the recommendations of the Adamawa State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, I have granted pardon to six persons who have served various jail terms and shown good conduct over the years,” he stated.

The governor ordered their immediate release and directed relevant authorities to implement the order without delay. The discharged inmates include Wamari Godwin, Abraham Marksunil, David Paul, Ibrahim Adamu, Usman Inuwa, and Sani Yahaya.

Nigeria marks Independence Day every October 1 to commemorate its liberation from British colonial rule in 1960. The day is celebrated nationwide with speeches, cultural displays, official events, and community activities. This year, however, the federal government canceled the traditional military parades.
