Nigerian actress Adesua Etomi Wellington has taken on a lead voice role in Secrets of the Multiverse, a new animated series created by Blessing Amidu as a spin-off of the popular Nigerian animation Lady Bukit and Motley Mopsters.
The actress leads the cast as Iyabo, a maternal figure whose character forms the emotional centre of the story. Speaking in a recent interview, Etomi Wellington said the role strongly resonated with her personal experiences as a mother.
She explained that her decision to join the project was influenced by her desire to participate in productions that promote values she would be proud for her children to watch, including love, discipline, empathy and kindness.
Reflecting on her character, she described Iyabo as a nurturing figure whose personality closely mirrors her own life experience as a parent. She noted that drawing from her real-life role as a mother helped her connect naturally with the character.
Etomi Wellington also highlighted the importance of developing more locally produced animated content for African children, expressing excitement about being part of a Nigerian animation created for both local and global audiences.
According to her, the opportunity to contribute to a homegrown production with universal appeal was one of the major reasons she accepted the role.
She further explained that her approach to selecting acting roles is guided by faith and by whether a project communicates values she believes should be shared with audiences worldwide.
