Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has praised winger Brahim Diaz as a “special player” in his squad, following the team’s impressive run in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Regragui also called on the Atlas Lions to remain humble and show respect to all opponents as they advance to the semifinals.
The remarks came after Morocco’s 2-0 victory over Cameroon in the AFCON quarterfinals on Friday night. Goals from Brahim Diaz and Ismael Saibari secured the win for the tournament hosts against the Indomitable Lions.
Morocco will now face the winner of the quarterfinal clash between Algeria and Nigeria in the AFCON last four.
“Diaz is a special footballer. I congratulate him for his performances for Morocco,” Regragui said in a post-match interview.
He added, “We [the Atlas Lions] must remain humble because every team wants to beat us in this AFCON, and we must respect all our opponents.”
