Agro-climate team plans dam, bridge for Kwara community
The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) team, an NGO, has promised to construct a dam and bridge for Iponrin Community in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara.
The team was led on Wednesday by a representative of the State Project Coordinator, Mr Abubakar Hussain.
This is contained in a statement by Mrs Okanlawon Taiwo, the ACReSAL Communication Officer.
Hussain said the community was one of the catchment areas in the work plan of ACReSAL, approved by the World Bank for implementation.
He stressed the need for the construction of a bridge and earth dam in the farm land as part of the community development.
Hussain said a new nursery would be put in place with gully stabilisation and erosion control.
The Baale of Iponrin Community, Alhaji Ahmed Musa, thanked the team for the visit and the World Bank for the project.
The National Chairman, Iponrin Community, Alhaji Akanbi Usman, also commended the team for the visit and pledged the community’s maximum support to ensure the success of the project in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Commissioner for Environment, Mrs Remilekun Banigbe, called on Kwara residents to embrace the project as part of efforts to tackle the effect of climate change.
