Aircraft Makes Emergency Landing In Lagos

Date:

An aircraft carrying 248 passengers and 12 crew members made an emergency landing at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos on Friday following a technical malfunction.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the aircraft developed a fault while in flight within Nigerian airspace, prompting the crew to request an emergency landing.

In a statement, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency received a distress call through its 767/112 toll-free emergency lines and immediately activated its response teams.

He said the LASEMA Response Team, alongside other emergency agencies, was placed on high alert as the pilot executed a safe landing on the airport runway.

“Following standard safety checks by the pilot and engineering crew, the aircraft was moved to the apron for further inspection and necessary repairs,” the statement said.

LASEMA confirmed that all passengers were safely evacuated and that no injuries or fatalities were recorded.

The agency added that there was no major damage to the aircraft and that recovery operations had been completed, with the aircraft secured on the apron.

Airport operations were not significantly disrupted by the incident, the statement noted.
