Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said the National Assembly reflected the genuine aspirations of Nigerians in the newly signed Electoral Act, rather than the views of what he described as “noise makers.”
Speaking at the State House after Bola Tinubu assented to the bill, Akpabio described the legislation as a historic outcome of a thorough and patriotic lawmaking process by members of parliament.
He noted that lawmakers were mindful of Nigeria’s unique electoral environment while resisting undue external interference during the drafting of the law.
According to him, the National Assembly is satisfied that it interpreted the intentions and yearnings of the majority of Nigerians, not those who are politically motivated, stressing that public noise should not be confused with the legislative process.
Akpabio added that the law formally recognises the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System Result Viewer (IReV) as a legitimate and verifiable record of polling unit results, noting that electronically transmitted results from areas with poor network coverage will be uploaded once connectivity is restored to enhance transparency.
