Akwa Ibom Law Enforcement Stops Kidnap Attempt, Arrests Two

Date:

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt and arrested two suspects in Eket.

According to a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the incident occurred on Saturday around 9:15 p.m. along Factory Road, Afia Nsit, Eket Local Government Area. A distress call from a concerned citizen alerted the command to the attempted abduction.

The victim, who was about to drive into his home, reported that four men tried to force their way into his vehicle. “The commotion and prompt arrival of the joint police team caused the assailants to flee the scene,” the PPRO said.

A subsequent pursuit led to the arrest of two suspects—one from Oyoku, Urue-Offong/Oruko LGA, and another from Udung-Uko LGA. Police operatives also conducted a search in an unfinished building in a nearby bush, recovering a sack bag containing a significant cache of weapons and other items.

Recovered items included one AK-47 rifle with 15 rounds of ammunition and three magazines, one assault rifle with 52 rounds of ammunition and three magazines, one pump-action shotgun with six live cartridges, a Redmi 14C phone, a head warmer, charms, and a pair of black rubber sandals.

DSP John stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining fleeing suspects, and the command remains committed to ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
