The All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled its chairmanship candidates for the upcoming July 11, 2026, local government elections in Edo State, with notable names including relatives of prominent political figures.
Cousins to Senator Adams Oshiomhole and former Deputy Governor Chief Lucky Imasuen emerged as candidates during the party’s direct primaries conducted across all 18 local governments and 192 wards on April 3, 2026.
Romeo Omoike was elected as the APC candidate for Etsako West Local Government, while Eriamatoe Christopher secured the ticket for Ovia North-East Local Government. Omoike is the younger brother of Oshiomhole’s mother, while Eriamatoe is a maternal cousin to Imasuen.
Another notable candidate is Sunday Akiotu EkpesonSpeaking after the announcement, Abdullahi Bello commended the electorate for the orderly and peaceful conduct of the primaries and wished the candidates success in the elections.
Jarret Tenebe urged the elected candidates to view their nominations as a call to duty, stressing that their commitment would be crucial to securing victory across the 18 local governments and 192 wards. He also noted that the appeal committee has commenced work to address any complaints arising from the primaries.
Tenebe described the smooth conduct of the primaries as a testament to the party’s commitment to democratic principles, internal cohesion, and unity among members, positioning the APC strategically for the upcoming elections.
